Andy Burnham became Prime Minister by deception. He should resign or be sacked.

The conclusion that Andy Burnham became Prime Minister by deception is based on an arcane piece of Law considered together with an obscure fact. First I'll set out my interpretation.  Later I'll give references to the evidence that leads me to that interpretation. Because of Sections 1 and 6(1) of the House of Commons Disqualification Act 1975 Andy Burnham's (supposed) election as an MP on 18th June 2026 was, in the terms of the 1975 Act, "void". The consequence, it seems to me, is that Andy Burnham is not and has not been at any point since 18th June 2026 a "Member of Parliament" because the effect of Sections 1 and 6(1) of the House of Commons Disqualification Act 1975 is, as a matter of Law, that Andy Burnham is "disqualified from membership of the House of Commons". The consequence, it seems to me, is that Andy Burnham (because his (seeming) election as an MP was "void") was not a legitimate candidate to stand to be Leader of th...

Stop the Burnham Coup - Scoping the Constitutional and Legal Questions

In this post I'll try to set out a broad outline of the Constitutional and Legal Questions that seem to me to arise (or potentially arise) in relation to the prospective "Burnham Coup". A fundamental Constitutional Question is whether, constitutionally, Charles Mountbatten-Windsor has a right to appoint a UK Prime Minister in the circumstances which apply (or are likely to apply) in July 2026.  That broad question is a foundation of the Relief I may seek at Judicial Review: Should it be necessary to seek Judicial Review of the anticipated appointment of Mr. Burnham as Prime Minister I anticipate seeking Relief by means of a Declaration to the effect: "It is unlawful (or was unlawful) for Charles Mountbatten-Windsor to appoint (or have appointed) Andrew Murray Burnham as First Lord of the Treasury (or Prime Minister) in the circumstances which apply (or did apply) in July 2026".  In additional to such Constitutional Questions there are multiple categorie...

Stop the Burnham Coup - my initial thinking

I view the prospect of Andy Burnham becoming Prime Minister of the United Kingdom in July 2026, as many anticipate, as a Constitutional Outrage which is likely to be unlawful.  Indeed there is, in my view, reason to suspect that Andy Burnham may already have engaged in criminal activity in pursuit of his goal of becoming Prime Minister. In this post I'll try to set out in simple terms my initial thinking that leads me to conclude that Andy Burnham cannot lawfully be appointed in July 2026 by Charles Mountbatten-Windsor to be Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. Nothing in this post seeks to set out (or limit) the formal legal arguments that may fall to be examined at Judicial Review (if such proves necessary) of the much anticipated appointment of Mr. Burnham as Prime Minister next month.  It seems to me that the purpose of a General Election is to allow the electorate to choose who they wish to be Prime Minister and consequently lead a Government. In the 2024 General Elect...
